The idea is to hold a seminar-workshop oriented towards rheumatologists who are responsible as leaders of the panamerican rheumatology societies or investigators of the GLADAR group, working with “real life” proposals and problem analysis.

October 3

  • Opening by Dr. Juan Angulo Solimano, President of PANLAR.
  • Welcome to Chile. Dr. Miguel Gutierrez, President of the Sociedad Chilena de Reumatología.
  • Introduction: Presentation of proposal, working program and participants. Dr. Arnulfo Nava. GLADAR: vision, mission, objectives of the study group.
  • First Conference: Dr. Mario Cardiel: State of the art in rheumatoid artritis in Latin America. The Quito Document.
  • Second Conference: Dra. María Eugenia Suárez-Almazor: Role of Academic Medicine in Community Service: Applications in Rheumatology .
  • Presentation of the 4 Education Committees: 15 minutes each, 15 minutes discussion. Introduction, description of questionnaire, results, highlights of consensus reached and not reached. Dr. Bernardo Pons-Estel y Dr. Mario Cardiel

Third Conference: The Canadian vision and experience in the change to anti TNF and biologic therapies. Boulos Haroui (Translation).

First Conference: Dr. RN. Kate Lorig: Patient Education Programs: self management,self efficacy. Chairs: Dr. Juan Angulo and Dra.Evelyn Hess

Comments and Questions: 20 minutes. (Translation).

On site work by the 8 Groups - 3.5 hours.

Revision of results, identification of problems, analysis of concrete proposals, search for priority projects.

Second Conference: Professor in Economics, Mr. Arístides Torche: Poverty, aging and health opportunities

Third Conference: Dr Fernando Muñóz.Ministry of Health, Chile: How decisions in health are taken.

Discussion: Health decisions: can rheumatologists have an influence? Chair: Dr. Enrique Soriano. Participants: Professor Arístides Torche, Dr. Fernando Muñoz, Dr. Mario Cardiel, Dra. María Eugenia Suárez Almazor, RN. Kate Lorig and Dr. Claudio Galarza.

Final presentation of groups: In 15 minutes (10 presentation, 5 discussion), each of the 8 groups will present their conclusions. Concrete proposals are expected. Each group will designate its speaker. Chairs: Dr.Arnulfo Nava y Dr. Mario Cardiel.
